UK food hygiene ratings, shown honestly.

Vittly shows official Food Standards Agency hygiene ratings for places that serve or sell food — on a map, or by name — and refuses to dress them up. Every rating carries the date of the inspection behind it, places still waiting on a first inspection are listed rather than quietly dropped, and nothing is ever averaged, estimated or predicted. Alongside the ratings sit plain-language explainers for the three inspection scores and for the 14 allergens UK law requires businesses to declare. Everything in the app is free, with no accounts and no adverts.

A hygiene rating reflects food safety standards found at the last inspection — not the quality of the food, and not how a kitchen handles allergens. If you have an allergy, always tell staff.

“Places with the same name nearby” groups by business name only. The FSA register does not record who owns or operates a venue, so places shown may be franchises, separate companies, or unrelated businesses that happen to share a name — Vittly says so on the screen and never presents a combined or averaged score. Everything above is free. An optional one-off Supporter purchase adds alternative app icons and a badge, and unlocks no functionality.

Coverage

Vittly covers the whole of the UK, using the FSA's two schemes as the FSA publishes them: FHRS numeric ratings of 0–5 in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and the FHIS named results (Pass, Improvement Required) in Scotland. The two are never converted into one another or ranked against each other. The app is fully available in Welsh as well as English.
