Apneo — Privacy Notice

Last updated: 2026-09-17

Apneo has no accounts, no analytics and no third-party SDKs of any kind. Sessions stay on your device and sync only through your own private iCloud, and heart-rate readings are kept in a separate store that is deliberately left out of that sync. Its App Store privacy label is ‘Data Not Collected’.

Nothing is tracked or collected

Apneo contains no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting and no third-party SDKs — the project has no package dependencies at all, so nothing but Apple’s own frameworks runs inside it. Its privacy manifest declares no tracking, no tracking domains and no collected data types, on every platform it ships to.

Where your practice data lives

Your sessions, custom patterns, saved resonant pace and program progress are stored on your device and mirrored to your own private iCloud (Apple’s CloudKit private database), so they follow you between your own devices under your Apple Account. That is your storage — Kalmaro has no server and cannot see, read or access any of it. There is no sync switch inside Apneo: it follows your device’s iCloud settings, and falls back to storing everything locally when iCloud is unavailable.

Heart rate and Apple Health

On Apple Watch, Apneo reads your heart rate during a session and writes a Mindful Minutes entry to Apple Health when a session is long enough to count. It asks for workout access so the watch can stream live heart rate, and it never saves a workout. On iPhone it reads four figures for the recovery trends — resting heart rate, heart rate variability, respiratory rate and blood oxygen — and writes none of them back; they are read when you open the screen and are not stored by the app. The heart-rate summary of a session is stored, in a separate database on your device that is deliberately kept out of iCloud sync, so it is not mirrored to your iCloud account the way your sessions are. None of it reaches a server of Kalmaro’s — there is no Apneo server. It does travel between your own devices: from Apple Watch to iPhone while a session is running, and, only if you switch on Heart Rate on Apple TV, from your iPhone to your own Apple TV across your local network. That switch is off by default, and stays off until you answer the one-time consent sheet. Apple asks for Health access itself, and Apneo works without it.

Showing a session on your Apple TV

Apneo can run a session on an Apple TV in the same room. The phone and the TV talk to each other directly across your local network, encrypted, with nothing of Kalmaro’s in between — which is why iOS asks for local network permission the first time. What travels over that link is the session: which pattern is running, its timing, and the name your device already advertises on the network. Your live heart rate is sent to the TV only if you turn that on. It is off by default and the app asks once, in plain words, before it is enabled.

The one network request

Apneo makes a single network request of its own, and only when you open Settings: it asks Apple’s public iTunes endpoint whether a newer version is on the App Store, so the About section can tell you. It sends nothing but the app’s own bundle identifier, runs at most once per launch and fails silently. Everything else that uses the network is a system service acting for you — iCloud sync of your own data, purchases through the App Store, and the direct link to an Apple TV.

Reminders

Practice reminders are scheduled on your device by iOS, and a reminder says only what you set it to say. There is no Kalmaro server, and nothing here can send you a message. Apneo is registered for remote notifications, but for one purpose only: the silent messages Apple uses to tell a device that its own iCloud data has changed. Those carry no content and never appear on your screen.

Purchases

Apneo is free to download, with every technique and both training tables included. Apneo Pro is offered as a subscription or as a one-time lifetime purchase, and unlocks the multi-week programs, the suggested-session coach, the recovery trends, the resonant-pace assessment and the custom-pattern builder. Purchases are handled entirely by Apple; Kalmaro never sees your payment details.

Deleting your data

Sessions, custom patterns, assessments, reminders and program progress can each be deleted inside the app, and deleting a session removes its heart-rate record with it. There is no single ‘delete everything’ button: removing the app deletes its databases from that device, and anything that had synced is removed through your iCloud settings.

Support

There are no accounts and no sign-in. If you email Kalmaro for support, that message and its contents are kept only in order to reply to you.

‘Data Not Collected’

Apneo’s App Store privacy label is ‘Data Not Collected’, and that is accurate: your own private iCloud is your storage rather than a collection point, health readings go no further than your own devices, and there is nothing else keeping a record. If you have any questions about privacy, see the main privacy policy, which carries the contact address.
